Flamingo1986 (Zachary Rich) presents the complete set of storyboards for part one of his upcoming animation based off of the hit television series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Howdy everypony! A few weeks ago I held a poll to see which pony - Twilight Sparkle or Rainbow Dash - should be featured in my next pony animation. But after they both nearly tied in the runnings, I shrugged my shoulders and thought, why not both?
So after about thirty hours of non-stop work, I finally managed to finish the storyboards for my next pony animation! I’m going all out with this one bronies – shot variation, dialogue, special effects – the whole nine yards! My last animation, “Present Prank”, was more experimental and thus I didn’t try to do anything too complicated. But now that I know what I’m doing I’m allowing myself to put a LOT more into the animation this time.
I hope you all enjoy these storyboards! Let me know what you all think (a critique would be wonderful)!
For those of you who have yet to see “Present Prank”, you can find it via the links below:
it's a really nice storyboard.the characters artline are even the same.and the fact that your animation is getting a dialogue,i'm looking forward to it.Also,i can't wait to see how it went.It would be nice to see this animation.I've seen you previous animation and it was really great.
The artwork of this storyboard is Fantastic too.I wish I could do better,i draw a non-flash animation fanmade art storyboard (and no,it's not a show,it's a fanseries) but so far,i couldn't remember several character faces while doing it at school. So I usually used guides from internet images.Wish you good luck on this animation.
(vision – Does the artwork present or reflect a point of view, theme or idea?)
No not really. If I was to make a stretch, I could say that it portrays the idea that one can be to zealous when it comes to the pursuit of science.
(Originality – Is the artwork fresh or new in its style, execution or approach? Is it something you haven’t seen before in its particular genre? Does it surprise you?)
Why yes I can say in my opinion that this is a pleasant and fresh idea. Most artist usually go with shipping, simple comics, or vary short flash animations. It is nice to see something that goes well beyond those types of fan-art. To top it off I think that this could be compared not only to the many fan made art dedicated to this show but because my first impression was that this was a official storyboard of some sort, I think it only fare to compare it to an official storyboard > [link] I think it is interesting to note that the storyboard I am critiquing has characters drawn even closer to the final product we see in the show than the actual official storyboards, so even the way this artist has drawn-up this storyboard is original as compared to the official ones.
However the way the characters are portrayed are not vary Original, they all act the way they would in the show, act the way that many other artist have portrayed them and over all it has a vary good resemblance to an actual episode. But than again because this short story plays out in a way that would never be shown in an episode, especially the ending I had a hard time judging this art piece on originality.
(Technique – Was the artwork skillfully created? Does the artist exhibit advanced knowledge of the medium and/or bring special focus to the craft of the medium used. )
Simply put. This art peace is of expert quality. While it is not colored and shaded and many other things that usually is associated with artistic skill, this art piece was not meant to be, so for this art piece I will be judging it on how good storyboards usually look. Considering the fact that most storyboards are hardly more than a series of simple sketches with sound effect markers, I can say that this art work is of Expert quality. The artist has used rather professional techniques to make it on par with what you might see in a well funded animated movie.
(Impact – Does the artwork resonate with you or evoke strong emotions?Does it make you think? Does it blow your mind?)
Seeing as I'm a fan of this show I cant fully be objectionable when critiquing this artwork on "Impact"but I will try. This artwork was fun to read, I found myself giggling at Rainbow Dash's antics, and Twilight's efforts to gain some concentration.
I was impressed with the artist ability to mimic the shows animation to such a degree that I had at first thought it was somehow an official storyboard. It was only by seeing this storyboard to the end that I questioned myself and read the artist comments to see if my suspicions where correct. The ending was just to funny and out of place for the show to be official, but wonderfully so.
